Fun and Educational Summer Trips for Your Children
A family vacation is an experience your family will never forget. Summer is here and the kids are out of school. What better time could there be to pack up your bags and hit the road?
Here, we’ve compiled a list of a few fun family outings that can make great memories for you and your loved ones:
#1: Take a trip to the park
The local park is a great place for your family to learn about your community and the outdoors. Parks generally have a wide array of activities you can participate in. Whether it’s a rose garden, miniature golf course, playground, or outdoor theater, you’re bound to have a wonderful time!
Be sure to pack a lunch because many parks have shelters and forested areas for your family to enjoy a relaxing picnic.
Do you have a furry four-legged family member you would like to bring along? Many parks have miles of dog-friendly trails weaving throughout its entirety. Just be sure to bring a leash!
#2: Take your family summer camping
Camping out in the woods with your family can be a wonderful bonding experience. If you haven’t already reserved a designated campsite, many parks will allow you to venture off and create your own spot.
Trailheads often lead to bodies of water or beautiful natural landmarks where family members can go for a swim or learn about the habitat around them.
When the daylight is over, help your children start and maintain a fire. It will teach them patience and provide them with a valuable life skill.
When the fire is up and roaring, you can divvy out the hot dogs and s’more supplies and roast them over the fire. Make sure you’ve got a few ghost stories to share!
#3: Rent a boat and go to the lake
Kansas is home to many beautiful lakes. In the dead of summer, the heat can become unbearable. What better way to beat the heat than spending the day on water?
Lake Perry, Wilson, Melvern, and Clinton all have a marina where you can rent boats, tubes, skis, and anything you’ll need for a great day on the lake.
If you don’t have access to boat rentals, oftentimes the lakes have sandy beaches with designated areas for picnics. This is an excellent opportunity for the children to play while you relax on the beach.
#4: Science City in Union Station
Are your kids fascinated by science? Then let Science City be the your ultimate vacation spot!
Science City is home to all sorts of whirring gadgets, gizmos, and experiments. Every day, live science demos take place where your family can watch real scientists perform experiments resulting in crazy chemical reactions.
The planetarium has a wealth of knowledge about the solar system and offers an interactive viewing experience of the night sky.
The dig site at the Dino Lab allows your children to experience the life of a paleontologist. With a shovel in hand, your kids can dig up real life dinosaur fossils, use a brush to dust them off, and piece them together to form full dinosaur parts.
These are only a few of the many possible locations for your family’s next vacation. Not only will they provide both kids and adults the fun they’re looking for, but they’re educational as well! You can help your children learn about the world around them while enjoying every second. These vacations will be remembered for the rest of their lives.
