EEC Curriculum
The Calvary Lutheran School Early Education Center is a Christ-oriented program that develops learning habits in younger children preparing to enter elementary school. Using the Creative Curriculum, children learn through play and social interactions and develop problem solving, art, music, dance, and literature skills that will set the platform for their future education.
A Typical Day in the EEC
Includes a combination of circle time, art time, puzzle time, gym or outside play time, lunch time, nap time, snack time, and daily music in their classroom environments. Most importantly, our staff teaches their students about Jesus every day. Our EEC staff uses the Creative Curriculum, Conscious Discipline, and Concordia Publishing House “One in Christ” Curriculum for teaching their students. Call for a tour at Calvary to learn more!
Ratio of Teachers to Students
Our staff maintains a focused ratio of teachers to students, which allows teachers to engage more thoroughly with every child.
- 1 teacher to every 6 infants
- 1 teacher to every 6 toddlers
- 1 teacher to every 10 students for 2-year olds, 3-year olds, 4-year olds, and Pre-K classes.
Creative Curriculum
The Creative Curriculum highlights the important balance between applying a general knowledge of child development with the particular knowledge a teacher gains by forming a relationship with each child and family. Each classroom teacher plans her lessons based on the interest and skills of the individual children in the classroom, both individually and collectively. Activity areas and lessons are based on the teachers observations making a developmentally appropriate structure that is both teacher and child directed.
The Creative Curriculum research base supports and guides teachers’ knowledge in not only what and how to teach children but why particular practices are effective. By understanding the theory and research of psychologists and educators over the last 75 years to include Piaget, Gardner, Vygotsky and many others, teachers are better able to support children’s development and learning.
Conscious Discipline
Created by Dr. Becky Bailey, an internationally renowned expert in child developmental psychology, Conscious Discipline is built on the premise of developing discipline within children rather than applying discipline to them. Conscious Discipline integrates social-emotional learning, discipline and self-regulations so you spend less time policing behaviors and more time teaching life skills.
Concordia Publishing House “One in Christ” Curriculum
Centered on Biblical stories, the love of Jesus Christ and sharing that love to each other as exemplified by him as taught throughout the Gospels, children are taught to love one another as Jesus loves us. This curriculum provides teaching materials to help children learn the Bible as they grow in faith.
